Understanding Iannis Xenakis by Markos Zografos

Schillinger Society
Joseph Schillinger developed a pedagogy and composition methodology that is maintained by the Schillinger Society. He came from Russia and immediately had an impact in NY becoming a famous advisor to leading popular musicians and concert music composers (e.g. George Gershwin, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Oscar Levant, Henry Cowell). While Cowell would defend Schillinger, Elliott Carter wrote an article "The Schillinger Case: Fallacy of the Mechanistic Approach" (1946).
