January 18, 2011 (Minneapolis, MN) -- Seth Custer (Program Director of Junior Composers) has been named the 2010 MTNA Distinguished Composer.

The award will be conferred at the 2011 MTNA national conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (March 26-30, 2011) and his piece, Touch & Go for saxophone quartet, will be performed during the conference at the Milwaukee Hilton Hotel on Sunday, March 27 at 11am.

Touch & Go was commissioned by the South Carolina Music Teachers Association and premiered by the Bob Jones University Saxophone Quartet at the SCMTA conference in November 2010. It was then submitted to the national MTNA Commissioned Composers competition where it garnered the award.

Dr. Custer is on the music theory faculty at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. He received his PhD in Composition from the University of Iowa where he studied with composer David Gompper. Seth received his MA in composition while studying with noted band composer David Gillingham at Central Michigan University.

Seth leads the seven-member faculty at Junior Composers Summer 2011 summer camps (July 11-23, 2011) and has also created an online music theory assessment tool for the Junior Composers website.
